I have just received your lovely book How to Garden the Low Carbon way - and to reduce my footprint even more I bought it second hand! Sorry you won't get the royalties though. But joy of joys I found it was signed copy!
As for what I’ve been up to to, on Friday I went to the allotment to prepare the garlic bed as it was a barmy 5c! The bed in question was covered in brambles, not so much now and I’m closer to planting the garlic. I still need to dig ditches around the bed to help with drainage and then I can plant the garlic. I start off the garlic in pots in the greenhouse because I’ve had problems growing garlic in the damp of winter.
Goodness well done! 😂 brambles can be a pain can't they - i mattock them out which is quite quick and v effective. I also plant garlic in pots rather than in the (very soggy now) ground - much more successful 😊
With the leeks you could snip them at soil level. They might perennialise. I had some HSL leeks that I left in the soil for flowers and generating my own seeds. They produced daughter leeks a bit like the babbington leek does. I usually take the daughter’s roots and all.
Hi Claire, that's interesting - I had heard you can perennialise ordinary leeks so I will try that, thank you 😊 I have Babington leeks too and they're ok but have found them quite slow to get going...
