How to assemble a glass barn cloche
Greenery regulars may remember I managed to get my hands on a few secondhand glass barn cloches earlier this year - and rather rashly promised you a video pulling together all the things Youtube doesn’t show you about how to put them together.
Everything I ever thought about these lovely old Victorian inventions has turned out to be true: they are tall and wide, easy to move around, and best of all they sit four-square on the soil, refusing to budge even in the face of quite fierce squally storms. They are completely plastic-free, and if you get them second-hand, low carbon too. For the sustainable gardener, it doesn’t get a lot better than this.
But they do take a bit of putting together. It’s taken me a while to get round to making that promised video, mostly because it wouldn’t stop raining long enough for me to film anything but also because I’m not very good at making videos. But here, with a fine cameo from Oakley the springer spaniel, is my attempt to show you how to assemble your glass barn cloche. Enjoy!
